Songbird
Songbird, Coursebooks, Workbooks and Literature Readers 1–8, is a series that has been created on the premise that English, as a language, should be developed progressively through meaningful experiences rather than as a mere drill or rote exercise.
Based on the core recommendations of the NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023, Songbird has the following features:
- It is theme based rather than topical.
- The series has a child-centred approach that is evident in the warm-ups, explanation of concepts and pattern of questions/tasks.
- It has a rich variety of tasks and activities like mazes, quizzes, craft, etc.
- The key concepts covered follow a spiralling approach whereby important concepts are revisited with increasing complexity.
- The course follows an integrated approach.
- The course design provides ample opportunities to learners to learn by doing and construct their own knowledge through engagement and interaction with their peers.
- As recommended by the NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023, a discovery and activity-based approach has been adopted to enable students to be future ready.
- The course design also allows nurturing of life skills and values.
- Learning through art integration is a recurring feature of the series.
- There is a strong Indian representation in the selections across the series.
